Explainer videos help a business get noticed, get understood and get chosen. They win attention and shares, make complex products simple, and turn more visitors into leads. But only when they tell a story about the viewer instead of listing features. Here are the 10 benefits, each with a real explainer we produced.

What an Explainer Video Actually Does

An explainer video is a short video, usually 60 to 120 seconds, that shows a specific audience what problem you solve and why your answer is worth a closer look. Most are animated, because animation can show processes, data and ideas a camera can't.

A good explainer does the job your sales team does on every first call, except it does it the same way every time and works while they sleep. If you want to see the different formats, our guide to the types of explainer videos covers them. This post is about what they do for your business.

Why These Benefits Happen: Stories, Not Features

Most business videos talk only to the brain: features, specs, logic. That's one of four places people make decisions. In our storytelling playbook, we plan every explainer around all four:

DECISION CENTER WHAT IT NEEDS HOW AN EXPLAINER DELIVERS IT
Brain Logic and just enough data One clear number or proof point, not a spec sheet
Heart Emotion, including contrast A worry or struggle before the relief
Imagination A picture of the better future Showing life after the problem is solved
Gut Simplicity and patterns it recognizes One example or analogy instead of a long list

Reach two of these at once and the message gets much stronger. That's the thread running through all ten benefits and samples below.

Part A · 3 Benefits
Get Noticed

Attention, search and shares.

Grab Attention and Hold It Boost SEO and Website Traffic Get Shared
A

01 Grab Attention and Hold It

Most viewers decide in the first few seconds whether a video is worth their time. An explainer that opens with a question, a puzzle or a problem they recognize earns those seconds. One that opens with a logo and a company history doesn't.

SAMPLE
Innovaccer: The Five-Second Puzzle
Healthcare Tech Infographic Animation B2W Production

It opens by handing the viewer a puzzle to solve in five seconds. Then it reveals that this is how a physician feels every day, digging insights out of scattered patient data. Only after that does Innovaccer appear.

"Make the viewer feel the problem in the first five seconds, and they'll stay for the answer."

The storytelling move

The opening is a promise and an experience at the same time. The viewer feels the problem before anyone names it, so they keep watching to see it solved.

What to take from it

Spend your first five seconds on the viewer's problem. Your product can wait until they care.

02 Boost SEO and Website Traffic

People search for answers, not vendors. An explainer that answers a real question ("what is location intelligence?", "how does endpoint security work?") can rank on YouTube and in Google's video results, and it keeps visitors on your page longer. Pair it with a transcript and a well-written page and it works for search around the clock. For more inspiration, see our best animated explainer videos.

SAMPLE
Esri (for Fast Company): What Is Location Intelligence?
Enterprise Software Character Animation B2W Production

The first line is the exact question a buyer would search: what is location intelligence, and how is it changing the way we solve problems? It then walks through real uses, from retail site selection and traffic bottlenecks to tracing spoiled crops back to the field.

The storytelling move

It answers the category question before it sells anything, so the brand becomes the one that explained the idea. Concrete examples keep an abstract term from staying abstract.

What to take from it

Build explainers around the questions your buyers already search for. Each one becomes a page, a video result and a sales asset.

03 Get Shared

People share what makes them laugh, nod or look smart in front of their network. A dry product walkthrough rarely gets forwarded on LinkedIn. A short explainer with a strong opinion or a memorable line does, and every share is reach you didn't pay for. More shareable ideas in our best animated ads.

SAMPLE
Agora: Video Should Connect Us, Not Turn Us Into Zombies
Developer Platform Character Animation B2W Production

Opens with a line every remote worker has felt: video calls should connect us, not turn us into zombies. Then it introduces Agora App Builder, a no-code way to launch a branded real-time video app, with full code access for developers.

The storytelling move

It takes a side on a shared frustration. A viewer who agrees with the first line is already halfway to sharing it, and the product arrives as the fix.

What to take from it

Give B2B viewers a line they'd happily repost. An honest opinion about the status quo travels further than a feature list.

Part B · 4 Benefits
Get Understood and Remembered

Clarity, emotion, reach and personality.

Simplify Complex Ideas Connect Emotionally Communicate Across Languages and Teams Show Your Brand's Personality
B

04 Simplify Complex Ideas

Buyers don't have time to decode your product. Animation can turn an abstract process into something they see and understand in seconds, usually through one good analogy. It's why explainers are standard for SaaS, security, healthcare and industrial tech. See more examples in our guide to types of explainer videos.

SAMPLE
DBM: Moving the Library of Congress by Hand
Cloud Software Infographic Animation B2W Production

Opens with one line: migrating data can feel like relocating the Library of Congress by hand. Then it shows a one-click tool that moves petabyte-scale data and virtual machines in minutes.

The storytelling move

One analogy does the work of a paragraph of specs. The viewer instantly grasps both the pain and the size of the relief.

What to take from it

Find the one comparison your buyer already understands, and build the explanation on top of it.

05 Connect Emotionally

B2B buyers are still people, with worries, deadlines and a lot riding on their decisions. When an explainer makes them feel something, they remember it. The best ones mix emotions: tension or worry before the relief, the way a good dessert balances sweet with something sharper. See more in our customer testimonial video examples.

SAMPLE
M&M Financial Consulting: A Business Owner's IRS Story
Financial Services Character Animation B2W Production

Told by a business owner who bought a company with a pending IRS payroll debt. The IRS turned hostile, demanded a huge down payment and wouldn't let up, until M&M stepped in.

The storytelling move

The owner's stress comes first, the solution second. Animation lets a real client story feel personal without putting the client on camera.

What to take from it

For B2B services, the most persuasive emotion is relief. Let the viewer live the problem before you show the way out.

06 Communicate Across Languages and Teams

Visuals travel better than paragraphs. An animated explainer can be re-voiced or subtitled for a global workforce without reshooting, and strong visuals still land with the sound off. That makes explainers useful well beyond marketing: onboarding, policy and training. We cover sound-off design in silent explainer videos.

SAMPLE
Gildan: Global Social Media Policy
Corporate Communications Infographic Animation B2W Production

Explains Gildan's revised global social media policy to employees across countries: why it exists, what it protects and how staff can share safely.

The storytelling move

It frames the policy as protection for employees, not a list of rules, which is how you get a global audience to actually watch a compliance video.

What to take from it

Internal explainers deserve the same storytelling as external ones. More ideas in corporate explainer videos.

07 Show Your Brand's Personality

Two companies can sell the same thing. The one people remember is the one with a voice. An explainer gives your brand a tone, a character and a style that a feature list never will. For more, see our best brand awareness videos.

SAMPLE
It's All Turtles: It's All Turtles All the Way Down
Startup Studio Character Animation B2W Production

Opens with an old creation myth (the earth rests on a giant turtle, but what does the turtle stand on?) and turns it into a catchy, offbeat song about the studio's name and philosophy.

The storytelling move

Nobody else in the category would introduce themselves with a metaphysics jingle. The odd, confident tone tells you who they are before any service is mentioned.

What to take from it

Personality is a positioning choice. Pick a tone your competitors would never use, and commit to it.

Got a product that's hard to explain?
That's most of our clients. We turn complex ideas into two-minute stories.
Part C · 3 Benefits
Get Chosen

Trust, funnel coverage and conversions.

Sell Without Being Salesy Work Across the Whole Funnel Increase Conversions
C

08 Sell Without Being Salesy

Nobody enjoys being pitched. The explainers that convert best focus on the viewer's goal and show only enough product to make them want more. In our storytelling playbook we call this winning the gut: one clear example beats a long list of benefits. For more, see our non-salesy animated commercials.

SAMPLE
Sponsorium: Measure What Your Sponsorships Are Worth
B2B Services Character Animation B2W Production

Starts with the viewer's ambition ('You believe in the power of sponsorship… but you wish you could accomplish more'), then lists the things they wish they could do: assess their portfolio, improve results without more budget, get teams aligned.

The storytelling move

The viewer is the hero; Sponsorium is the helper. The product shows up as the answer to wishes the viewer just agreed with.

What to take from it

Write your script around what the viewer wants to achieve, and give your product a supporting role.

09 Work Across the Whole Funnel

One explainer rarely does everything. Short spots build awareness, detailed explainers support evaluation, and demos help close. Planned together, they move a buyer from 'never heard of you' to 'let's talk.' See how Epicor and Aiven built funnel-wide video libraries.

SAMPLE
McAfee MVISION: The 30-Second Spot
Cybersecurity Mixed Media Animation B2W Production

A 30-second awareness spot: the freedom to roll out Office 365 and build in AWS without putting data at risk. It sits at the top of the funnel, with a separate 165-second MVISION Endpoint explainer handling the detailed evaluation stage.

The storytelling move

Each video does one job. The spot creates interest; the longer explainer answers the questions that interest raises.

What to take from it

Plan explainers as a set: a short hook, a deeper explainer, then proof. Our 30-second explainer videos show how much a short spot can carry.

10 Increase Conversions

An explainer on a landing page answers the questions that stop people from signing up, in the order they'd ask them. When it ends with one clear next step, more visitors take it. The biggest lift comes from explainers that name a specific problem and a specific result.

SAMPLE
Aiven: Speed Is the Key for Software Companies
Cloud Data Platform Infographic Animation B2W Production

Built for software companies: 'Speed isn't just a nice to have, it's the key to propelling past competition.' It frames legacy applications as anchors that drain resources and slow releases, then shows how Aiven's managed data platform frees teams to ship faster.

The storytelling move

It speaks to one industry in its own language, so the CTO watching feels the video was made for them. That relevance is what turns a landing-page visit into a demo request.

What to take from it

Make a version for each key industry you sell to, then send each audience to the one built for them. More on this in how explainers increase conversion rates.

6 Script Rules to Get These Benefits

None of these benefits come from animation alone. They come from the script. These are the rules we use on every explainer, taken from our storytelling playbook:

  1. 01

Open with a promise. Viewers decide in the first few seconds whether to keep watching. Give them a reason: a question, a problem, a puzzle.

  2. 02

Raise the stakes before you solve anything. Most business videos solve the problem in the first five seconds, then spend the rest listing features. Let the viewer feel what's at risk first.

  3. 03

Make the viewer the hero. Your product is the tool that helps them win, not the main character. When several stakeholders are involved, pick the one everyone serves (often the end customer) as the hero.

  4. 04

Use one strong proof, not ten weak ones. A single customer result or number is more convincing than a pile of claims.

  5. 05

Write for the ear, then cut. A minute of voiceover is about 120 to 140 words, so a two-minute explainer needs under 250 words. For every sentence, ask: does it help the viewer, or is it there to impress? Can it wait for the sales call? More in our guide to writing an explainer video script.

  6. 06

End on a high, with one clear action. The feeling at the end is what viewers link to your brand. Finish on optimism and tell them exactly what to do next.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main benefits of explainer videos? +

Explainer videos grab attention quickly, help your pages rank and hold visitors longer, get shared, simplify complex products, connect emotionally, work across languages, show brand personality, sell without a hard pitch, support every funnel stage and increase conversions on landing pages.

Are explainer videos worth it for B2B companies? +

Usually, yes, especially for complex products with long sales cycles. A two-minute explainer can replace the same first-call explanation your sales team repeats every week, and it keeps working on your website, in email and on social media.

How long should an explainer video be? +

Most B2B explainers work best between 60 and 120 seconds. A minute of voiceover is about 120 to 140 words, so aim for under 250 words of script for a two-minute video.

What are the best companies for creating animated explainer videos? +

Broadcast2World is a US-based animated explainer video company with 15+ years of experience and 2,400+ videos produced for brands including McAfee, Siemens, Innovaccer, Esri and Gildan. It specializes in B2B explainers for complex technical products, SaaS, healthcare and startups, and works with small businesses too.

How much does an animated explainer video cost? +

At Broadcast2World, a 60-second animated explainer typically starts around $3,000. Premium and 3D styles cost more. Standard turnaround is 4-6 weeks, with a 2-week rush available. Request a free quote.

Every benefit on this list comes back to the same thing: a story the viewer sees themselves in. Innovaccer's puzzle, DBM's library, Sponsorium's wish list. None of them start with the product. They start with the person watching, and that's why they work.
